Book Orders

Class Code –  RGLTH

Order Due Date – 09/22/17

Dear Families,

I want your child to be a successful reader and for that, I need your help. When children choose their own books to read for pleasure, they enjoy reading more and spend more time doing it. The more your child reads, the better they will do in school and in life. Scholastic Book Clubs flyers are made for you and your child to shop for books your child will love to read. Each month, the flyers are filled with trusted, excellent quality, age-appropriate books chosen by Scholastic for prices as low as one dollar. Plus you will be helping our class when you order: Scholastic matches each order you place with FREE BOOKS for our classroom to share. Thank you for helping your child become a successful reader.

Sincerely,

Ms. Kelley

Show and tell & Science too!

Aiden brought his Texas Spiny Back Lizard. His name is Mason. He was able to stand in front of our class and answer lots of questions. We looked up information on him  and the students really enjoyed it! We’ve been talking about ecosystems and food chains in Science!!! So we talked about what he eats, what ecosystem he comes from, and more. It was so fun to see him light up while he talked about Mason. Good job Aiden!

Kelley Reward Dollars

Now that the kids in my classes have had a chance to earn some Kelley Reward Dollars, they are now ready to spend it! I’ve made a schedule for each table group to have a day designated to them to trade in their dollars for a reward. There are things from 10 dollars all the way to 150 dollars. The students count out their money and use it like cash to reinforce money management. Our first purchase of the year was Chiara. She bought my teacher chair! This is a picture of her awesomeness!!!! She, and the other students, absolutely loved the fact that I really did trade my chair with her. Students can buy lunch with me, hat passes, shoes off, house shoes, stuffed animal, pencils, free time and all kinds of other things. There are a total of 20 different things on the list. Remember the students earn Kelley Reward Dollars by getting their planner signed, bringing back papers that need to be signed, xtra math, completing homework logs, doing well on work, and more! I usually throw in a surprise giveaway every couple of days! They are loving it and I am loving the enthusiasm behind them wanting to do a good job!

Science tools lab pictures!

I promised to upload some pictures and here are just a few! We learned about different science tools a little over a week ago. The kids got to use magnifying glasses or hand lenses, microscopes, magnets, thermometers, safety goggles and glasses, balance scales, and stop watches. They had a great time and almost every day since, someone has asked me when are we doing science stations again! The kids are learning science interactively. We include lots of videos, pictures, and hands on as possible to make it fun!

Important Reminders

Tuesday, August 29th ~ Parent Orientation from 6-7

Monday, September 4th ~ School Holiday

August 29 – Parent Orientation Night

SAVE IT IN YOUR CALENDARS NOW!!!!!

Parent Orientation Night is August 29th, NEXT TUESDAY at 6:00 pm!!! Everyone will start out in the cafeteria and then grade levels will be released to go to their designated areas. Third grade has requested the library! If that changes, I will let you know! I can’t wait to see you all there! I have enjoyed getting to know your kids and we are already working together very well! I am still so excited about this year!!!

Solar Eclipse Monday

Students are not permitted (during school hours) to go outside during the solar eclipse, Monday August 21st. We will be able to watch the solar eclipse streamed live during lunch and recess in the cafeteria. This is a safe way for the students to experience it without taking the risk of causing damage to their eyes. The students will also be able to go down and watch it in the cafeteria at 1:00 for its peak time at 1:15! We started talking about the solar eclipse on Thursday and Friday, so I know all the kids are excited to see what it’s all about. The fifth grade teacher, Mr. McBride, will talk to the students about the eclipse during that time! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email me or send me a Remind text!
